Robert Cottingham American, b. 1935

Robert Cottingham was born on September 26, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, USA. He is best known for his prints and paintings of urban landscapes. Cottingham graduated with his BFA from the Pratt Institute in 1963, following which he embarked on a five-year career in advertising.

It was during this time that he focused on his art, and today, is one of the best known photorealists of the 20th century.

Cottingham's work employs perfect geometry when creating the layout for his work - this can be through the use of grids, projectors, photographs and sketches, and model construction, among others.
