6 "Greatnik Dolls" made in New York in 1966 representing Einstein, Freud, Beethoven, Van Gogh (missing one ear), Abraham Lincoln and Shakespeare. Greatniks was a sophisticated adult stuffed toy line whose name was inspired by the launch of the Russian satellite, Sputnik. These toys were designed by Sam Glankoff, a New York based Abstract Expressionist artist. This particular group have their original ownership tags with a notation that they were donated by Clare Boothe Luce, the author, politician and ambassador, famous for her 1936 hit play, The Women, which had an all-female cast.
